ROB
Rob
Talford has what a lot of men would
kill for - good looks, good body, good on the sporting field.
He has always attracted compliments and attention, and has
unfortunately become addicted to getting both, to the extent where
his very existence seems defined by the approval of others.
He will analyse people’s
behaviour, and if their attention wavers from him even momentarily,
he will perceive that there is something wrong. This causes
him to be even more self-centred, constantly focussed on appearance.
In order to be accepted by
everyone, it is necessary to be all things to all people, which
explains Rob’s need to be seen as a jack of all trades. This
is an image he continues to pursue even when totally out of his
depth.
There is certainly a confidence
that is endemic to his charm - no-one can have so many of life’s
opportunities land on their lap without feeling at some point that
they have deserved it all, and worked for it. But Rob is very
afraid of losing it all, and needs to constantly draw attention to
himself to keep the bubble in the air.
He is motivated by money, which
is very important as it can be poured straight back into preserving
his image. It comes so easily to him through his profession
that he has difficulty understanding that others don’t have it so
readily available.
Women are important to him
insofar as he craves bodily worship. In the absence of a
sexual relationship, women become surrogate mothers as Jess has.
He is subconsciously aware that
his appearance- conscious nature is somewhat feminine, and he goes
to great lengths to hide this. His attitude towards homosexuality,
which he associates with femininity, is that he tries to keep it at
arm’s length. |
